
PT Santomo Biomass Indonesia Highlights Role in Advancing Sustainable Energy at Indonesia Future Energy and Grid Summit 2025
June 23, 2025Japan – Hiroshima University (President: Mitsuo Ochi) and Santomo Resources Co., Ltd. (President Director: Tomoichi Yamaguchi) are pleased to announce that their joint proposal titled “International Joint Research and Development on High-Yield Carbon Recovery from Palm Residues via Hydrothermal Carbonization” has been selected for the 2025 fiscal year “International Joint Research and Development on Innovative Technologies in the Energy and Environment Field” program by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
This selection is based on the integration of Hiroshima University’s research achievements in hydrothermal processing of biomass and Santomo Resources Co., Ltd.’s expertise in biomass procurement and transportation within Indonesia. The Indonesian National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN) has been selected as the Indonesian partner institution for this joint research project, and the parties will develop a social implementation scheme for palm residue hydrothermal carbonization.
Hiroshima University and Santomo Resources Co., Ltd. will leverage their respective strengths to further accelerate research and development on palm residue, with the aim of contributing to the decarbonization of society using Japanese technology.
